Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Dave Shaeffer earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 1999 and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 2004.
From 2009-2011, Dr. Schaeffer completed his general surgery residency, a fellowship in colon cancer research, and a masters degree in public health with a focus on community cancer screening at the University of Hawaii. He also performed a fellowship in cancer control and prevention with the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
While in Hawaii, Dr. Shaeffer was the medical director of Quality of Care for cancer programs at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, as well as co-chair of the Quality of Care Committee and chair of the Multidisciplinary Care Working Group for the NCI’s Community Cancer Center program.
Co-owner of Pagosa Medical Group since 2011 with his wife, Dr. Amber Reiss-Holt, Dr. Shaeffer also served as chief of staff at Pagosa Springs Medical Center from 2013-2015.
