Dr. Robert Wallach is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). As a physiatrist, his goal is to enhance and restore function, reduce pain and increase quality of life for people with problems relating to the spine, muscles, nerves and joints. He believes that the key to successful non-surgical treatment involves patient education and participation, and a team approach with therapists, coaches and other physicians as needed. His goal is to add value to the lives of his patients and the community.
Dr. Wallach is a Colorado native who grew up in Denver. He earned an undergraduate degree in exercise science, with honors, and received his medical degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. As a recipient of the highly competitive Health Professions Scholarship, he served in the US Army, completing his residency in PM&R at the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. in 2004. His military service continued at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA until 2008, when the opportunity came to move to Durango. Dr. Wallach spent the next 5 years in private practice in Durango, followed by another 5 years at New Mexico Orthopaedics in Albuquerque, the largest orthopedic and spine group in New Mexico.
Dr. Wallach treats acute and chronic pain using joint/muscle/spine injections both in the office and under fluoroscopic (x-ray) guidance, patient education, exercise, therapies, and nutrition counseling. He also has extensive experience, expertise and interest in electrodiagnostic (EMG and nerve conduction) testing for the diagnosis of nerve and muscle problems. Additionally, he is skilled at using Botox injections for cervical dystonia, spasticity and migraine headaches.
